Heartfelt Family Stories
A Young Funeral Director (11/27/2007)
Im a young (22 year old) funeral director in California at a combo mortuary and I tend to get the younger cases. I recently had a case in which a 22 year old man lost his mother. I was able to connect with him and explain everything the way a 22 year old would want to hear it. I was also able to explain everything to his aunt in a very professional manner. After the service the aunt came to me and said "Im so grateful that you are in this business. You are perfect for it. You have the demeaner that is perfect for this line of work. You made Steven very comfortable and he expressed how relieved he was that his mother was in your care and that he felt like you were more of a friend than a funeral director because right now he really needs friends." It really felt good to hear that from a family in a business that is flooded with older professionals. It was nice to find a niche that I was able to fill, but more importantly that I was able to comfort someone in the darkest moment of his life and be a friend when he wasnt expecting to find one. Thats my story. Its not all that amazing but its true and comes from the heart.
